GLOBAL OUTBREAKS OF COVID-19 CONTINUE TO AFFECT US ALL, AND IN SO MANY WAYS!
My hope is that as you read this, you, your family and friends are healthy and safe wherever you are, while doing your part to help combat the devastating potential of COVID-19.
KUNDE HOSPITAL – PANDEMIC PREPARATIONS IN HIGH GEAR
At the end of March, the Government of Nepal officially placed the country in a nationwide lockdown and cancelled the tourist climbing season in an effort to keep its citizens safe. Doctor Kami Temba Sherpa recently advised us that as of mid-April, there have been no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the Solu Khumbu area, nor were any cases seen at the Kunde Hospital. Therefore, at this time, the Kunde Hospital is taking an active role to prepare for a future outbreak in the Region.
Doctor Kami is busy conveying social distancing measures and hand-washing techniques to villagers in their communities via lectures and through daily radio communications. The broadcasts are aired in native Nepali and Sherpa languages. The Hospital is also in the process of training their medical team, and ordering pandemic-related medical equipment from contacts in Kathmandu.
Your pledges through Canada Helps will enable us to assist the Kunde Hospital to procure Personal Protection Equipment (PPE), N95 masks, surgical gloves, and disinfectants, among other necessities. Access to Canada Helps from our website:

UPDATE ON FUNDRAISING EVENTS
Earlier this year, we were excited to reach out to you with an invite to not one, but to two Spring Fundraising events! These will now hopefully take place in August and September. Our ‘Annual Herb Paterson Memorial Golf Tournament’ will now take place on Monday August 31st, and our new and exciting ‘Night in Nepal’ originally planned for May 22nd, has been rescheduled to September 11th. We will continue to keep you informed regarding confirmations and/or any updates to these plans, as the information becomes available. So please stay tuned!
EDUCATION
Our SEHF group in the U.S. continue to monitor progress at the Zeke O’Connor High School in Phaplu. The start of the school year which normally begins in early April has been delayed until further notice, due to safety measures. Please note that among our funding projects, the school desperately needs assistance with meeting their continually increasing annual operating costs.
On behalf of our Board of Directors and The SEHF Associates, I thank all who help us now and who have helped us this past year! Stay safe!
